Agar Premix

Our Agar Agar powder is 100% natural and organic.  Agar agar powder is used to make a gelatin on which to grow microbic organisms - like fungal mycellium.  Derived from seaweed, agar itself offers little nutritional value but can be supplemented with sugars and nutrients to create the perfect platform on which to grow heallthy mycelium.

Use agar to:

• Grow mycelium from spores
• Isolate desired strains
• Clean-up contaminated cultures
• Clone specimens showing ideal genetics
• Test vendor spore or liquid culture viability and purity
• Grow mycelium to make liquid culture with
• Testing lab and clean-work areas and identifying contamination vectors

Agar premix package weights are the amount of agar agar powder which comes with your purchase.  Different formulations will ship at different total package weights.

Every 100 grams of premix makes 5 liters (5000 ml) of liquid agar.  Based on 90 mm plate size you can expect:

10 dishes → ~200 mL agar

20 dishes (full sleeve) → ~400 mL agar

100 dishes (case) → ~2,000 mL agar (≈ 2 L)

Agar premix powder is available in the following formulations:

• Water Agar (Plain agar) - For isolating clean mycelium from an existing sample.
• MEA (Malt Extract Agar) - For starting spores or tissue samples.
• MYA (Malt Yeast Agar) - Use when you’re confident you have a clean sample.
• MYPA (Malt Yeast Peptone Agar) - General-purpose nutritious agar recipe.

Should you require agar with a specific sugar source not listed here, please ask me if I can make plates with your sugar preference to encourage rapid 'Jumping off" of mycelium from agar to a new substrate. Ordering grain as well? I can add your sugar to the hydration water. Synchronized sugars across your grow can reduce time to fruit by 4-7 days.
