Pre-Poured Agar Plates
6-Pack
Our ready-to-use agar plates save you the time and hassle of mixing, sterilizing, and pouring agar yourself. Each plate provides a nutrient-rich medium for growing, testing, and refining mushroom cultures. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced cultivator, pre-poured plates make isolating, cloning, and contamination cleanup simple and efficient.
Myco Envy agar plates come in sterile lidded disposable plastic condiment cups instead of traditional 90 mm 'petri-dish' plates. We do this to:
- Reduce waste and expense
- They are easier for beginners to work with
- Our experience has been positive with these little cups
- Makes repeating results at home easier.
- NO EXPENSIVE PARAFILM NEEDED!
Unsure which agar to choose? Myco Envy’s Agar Guide explains which formula is best for every stage of your cultivation journey.
Use pre-poured agar plates to:
- Grow mycelium from spores
- Isolate strong, desired strains
- Clean up contaminated cultures
- Clone mushroom specimens with ideal genetics
- Test vendor spore or liquid culture viability and purity
- Prepare clean mycelium for transfer into liquid culture
- Evaluate lab or workspace cleanliness and identify contamination vectors
Pre-poured plates are available in the following formulations:
- Water Agar (Plain agar) – For isolating clean mycelium from an existing sample.
- MEA (Malt Extract Agar) – Ideal for germinating spores or tissue samples.
- MYA (Malt Yeast Agar) – Best for confident transfers from already-clean cultures.
- MYPA (Malt Yeast Peptone Agar) – A versatile, nutrient-rich recipe for general use.
If you need plates with a specific sugar source not listed here, please contact us—we may be able to pour plates with your preferred sugar to encourage rapid “jumping off” of mycelium into new substrates. Ordering grain bags too? We can even synchronize the sugar source across agar and grain hydration water, reducing time to fruiting by 4–7 days.
